The King of England dies suddenly in a Scottish hotel during a storm. The court physician is unable to help, and the only doctor available is a pig farmer's vet. The vet realises that the king did not die of a heart attack, but pretends to believe it for opportunistic reasons. The crown prince, a superficial young man dressed as a Nazi after a party, arrives and asks the vet for help in preparing his first speech to the nation. The doctor convinces the prince that, if he wants to go down in history, he must confess to murdering the king and abolish the monarchy. Initially uncertain, the prince becomes enthusiastic about the idea, but then suddenly changes his mind. Power transforms him: he humiliates the vet and, in a delirium of omnipotence, kills him. Amid the monarchy's crisis, a fierce truth emerges: man always remains a beast, ready to become human.
