Boléro (1928) is a precise and seductive musical composition that evokes ambiguous images of sensuality. In his new choreographic version, Merola explores the obsessive repetitiveness of the music, focusing on the relationships and distances between men and women and transforming fears, desires, and tensions into dance. Stefano Corrias incorporates three original musical fragments to highlight the most intimate moments. The resulting choreography is a non-narrative, abstract fairy tale that conveys pain, misunderstanding, and the contrasts of life from the opening roll to the final explosion, transforming Boléro into a metaphor for existence and human relationships.
In every creation, Michele Merola seeks to express joy, anger, hope, and torment through dance, breathing new life into bodies scarred by experience. He finds inspiration in Vivaldi's music and movement, rediscovering the art of choreography, and in Marc Chagall's paintings, guided by emotions and a desire for beauty. Concerts such as La Follia and L'Estro Armonico capture universal emotions. Merola translates notes into movement with contemporary intensity, creating a harmonious dialogue between music and body that engages the audience and explores passion, elegance, and life.
